Emilia Romagna

The beautiful region of Emilia Romagna in northern Italy, with its strong mix of industry and agriculture, is home to the Ferrari, Lamborghini, prosciutto, and parmigiano cheese…

Located in the broad valley of the Po River it is one of Italy’s major agricultural regions. Wheat, corn, sugar beets, and animal fodder, like these giant hay bales, are among their main crops. But the region also produces a lot of fruits and vegetables, especially grapes and wine. The hay bales are always a welcome site because they are a sign of future Prosciuttos (cured hams) and giant wheels of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. Two of the region’s most loved specialities!

Did you that Italy’s Emilia Romagna region is home to Prosciutto di Parma, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, balsamic vinegar, the Ferrari, and the Lamborghini? It’s a real treasure trove!

  1. What a beautiful scene! Love the hills giving way to mountains in the background. Also, can’t help but notice that one lonely hay bale pushed up into the grass. I wonder why?! 🙂

    1. Indeed it is, Dayle! I’m sure a farmer lives there with his family, and judging from the size of the house, possibly multiple generations. Italians have a tendency to do that, and it’s a wonderful tradition!!

      1. We would have visited this springtime if it weren’t for you-know-what. Our family will hopefully come in the summer, so the earliest we’d get back is the autumn- can’t wait! 🙂
