Help and encouragement for fellow missionaries, believers, and seekers of the peace, hope, and joy found in the Lord Jesus.
Hello and thanks for stopping by!
I’m the Small Town Straniera – Italian for foreigner or expat… American born, Italian-at-heart, wife, mom, nonna, and 31-year missionary in Italy.
I keep this blog to connect with, learn from, and encourage others. Especially my fellow missionaries, because I know our task is ardous and how lonely and discouraging it can get.
But this is also my faith journey for I still have far to go, and am learning right along with you…
- To trust God more and hear his still small voice.
- To grow in him and his word.
- To understand the fascinating world of Bible times.
- To strengthen relationships, especially those complicated by cultural and language barriers, and by distance from those back home.
If you too want to grow in these areas, I invite you to join me as we explore and learn together!
This blog has moved

And always remember…
If you refuse to be hurried and pressed, if you stay your soul on God, nothing can keep you from that clearness of spirit which is life and peace. In that stillness, you know what His will is.Amy Carmichael
